Everyone knows that the healthcare system in America need overhauling but I oppose the democrats plan. We need to improve the current system where we have choices by reducing fraud, waste, and overall costs. Please show your opposition to their plan by voting against it. I am retired at age 63 with diabetes and cardio problems and need to have my choice of care. We also need to be able to sign up for insurance with being declined for pre-existing conditions. It is also important that we keep medicare viable for seniors. Thank you.

I would like to see info on the dems health plans that info must be made available to all and they must see that new plan the dems have to compelety change the delivery of health care Why do I have to look at Michell Micheans web site to find this info? I think I have said this before, Governmment has NO business, being in business!
I'm a senior citizen, and I've paid, and am paying for my health care insurance, call-ed Medicare. That is not an entitlement, I paid for it when I worked, and still, after
I retired. There are a lot better ways to implement coverage, w/o going to the expense that Mr. Obama wants. Do what you can to nix this ever whichway you
can. More liberties lost.

Health care insurance reform should be on the table, but not an excuse for more bureaucracy, massive government spending, nor for higher taxes and government mandated health care. Do not be stampeded into another "Crisis" bill- the country will not fall apart tomorrow because you haven't rushed it through.
Americans are already carrying an onerous tax load, with federal, state and local taxes eating up more than half of our income. Ever increasing taxes will not produce a watt of energy, jobs, or better health.
People are exhorted now to pay down debt and get their financial houses in order-what about the government? It's about time Congress listened to its own advice!

You are right, the vote is close enough, that if by some fluke it ends up back in the House, it can be killed!

I hated to miss the cap-and-trade vote. It’s a terrible bill. I doubt it will survive the Senate, but if it does I look forward to voting against it when it returns to the House.

I'm in Mobile, AL at the National Junior Miss Scholarship competition, where my daughter, Alexis is competing as Arizona's Junior Miss. I’ve let my daughter down enough over the years. I just couldn’t do it again last night. She had a tough night. I’m glad I was there with her.

I'm happy you are focused on the horrible legislation which will destroy the state of the medical care in our country, however I am very concerned you did not vote when Cap and Trade came to the floor for a vote. Patrick Kennedy, came out of rehab to vote on this. This is another bill, which if it becomes law, will devestate our country for years to come.
Liberals always complain about GOP and their link to big business and legislation for personal gain, but this Cap and Trade will benefit all who invest in alternate energy, which Pelosi is one of many Democrats/Liberals who has invested heavily in this sector.
Please Congressman, watch out for us! Not only with health care but also is all areas!

I just want to keep the coverage I have, but I hope there is some way to help those who do not have coverage without punishing those of us who do. There must be a way to do this if the government really looks at the whole picture instead of doing what they want instead of what is right for the citizens of the USA.

While I certainly support having a choice and private health care, not one run by the government, I would also like people to consider going back to another way. There was a time when no one had medical insurance, just Major Medical and/or hospitalization coverage. The every day doctor costs were paid by each family, directly to their doctor. Most people aren't in need of a doctor too often and can handle the cost. It would be much cheaper than monthly premiums and I'm sure doctors would consider this better than today's complicated system.

I am not in favor of any government run health care program at all. My feeling is that the government is OUT of control with spending, and this only adds to compound the issue.

Mr. Flake,

I am a proponent of Direct Access Testing. As an Arizonan such services are available through Bashas Healthstyle programs. A rundown of the pros and cons of DAT is available at the following:

At the time of this writing 2004, Arizona did not allow DAT but fortunately AZ legislators came to their senses shortly thereafter. DAT is one method for reducing costs.

We have used the service since Basha's started making it available. We have a 4-year history that we maintain. We can see where we have made progress or not. We try to stay away from medial providers who insist on duplicating these tests. Even though I am on Medicare, I am comfortable with paying for this very reasonably priced service with my own funds. It is worth it for the privacy and convenience. (I mention Bashas grocery chain because as an Arizonan you are probably familiar with the name.)

I read the article in WSJ and agree. In addition to the above, I can list multiple ways that costs could be reduced and BETTER services could be provided if only people were better educated about their health and more responsible. HSA's are a step in the right direction. Employers are better served if they provide wellness and prevention programs rather than blanket coverage.

Many doctors in northern Arizona will not take Medicare patients, so government management of the seniors' healthcare systems has already limited their choices. One can imagine what it will be like when the whole system performs like Medicare. But then imagination is not required; plenty of horror stories abound regarding healthcare in the EU and Canada.

Government subsidized healthcare, just like anything subsidized by the government will be controlled by the government. As such, as the government runs out of money (or even if it doesn't) they will eventually ration that care. And it will cost more than it would if we dealt with it via personal choice and through the private enterprise system.

We have been avoiding tort reform and I don't understand why. We are chasing our tails with nuisance lawsuits and the ever costly malpractice. Consequently we will forever be paying higher premiums to offset the cost.

Before we delve into how to change the healthcare system, we have to understand how it go there. Instead of putting a massive government bandage on it, look into:

How did healthcare get so expensive

What laws have we made that have tied the hands of our hospitals and healthcare givers that have added to the expense

Why are politicians so reluctant to address tort reform??

To me it's just the Federal Government trying to reach into our pockets once again!!

It is UNCONSTITUTIONAL and adds to all the previous assaults on our Constitution with meddling in private business, all the 28 czars that do not answer to anyone else and were never vetted by us or congress.
STOP the insanity I pray more Congress men /women would actually pay attention and do what is morally right . Thank God for J. Flake, M. Bachman, S. King, V. Foxx, there are few others but very feww. They are the ones that need our support.

Any proposal that puts healthcare decisions in the hands of the government is a mistake. It's amazing to me that our government has such little confidence in its people that it feels it has to take over the management of our health.

In fact, I find it arrogant that the government feels that they have more ability than I do to manage my life in so many ways. They have my money, my assets and now my health????

The government is self serving and becoming moreso all the time. We need to stop this runaway train.......

in their education? if there were more doctors, there would be better care and
less need for doctors to "earn down" huge bills for their education.
it would help by providing doctors to less advantaged people, they would be paying
back the government for their advancement in the medical world.

Also want to know why we have never seen a valid birth certificate for Mr. Obama? I believe John McCain provided one. The one on Obama's website was not authentic and taken down. The records in Hawaii were sealed. Does anyone care about this?

I know that having the government provide healthcare for everyone isn't the right answer, but it sure looks good sometimes. My husband works for a small company. If he leaves this company COBRA will not be an option, because of the size of the company. My son has pre-existing conditions. If we ever have an insurance gap of more than 63 days he may never be covered by insurance again. Many of us are more worried about losing health insurance than we are about losing jobs. This is my biggest concern regarding healthcare. I hope you have some good ideas. I wish I had some suggestions.
